Profiting from Trends in Food, Drink and Hospitality
The Food, Drink and Hospitality sectors make up a huge slice of the UK economy and employ close to 5 Million people. It’s also an incredibly dynamic, fast changing area driven by changing consumer trends – trends such as flexitarianism that are creating multiple, niche opportunities for aspiring businesses. Not only that, but there are huge changes relating to supply chains, use of technology and staffing needs. And that’s all before Brexit!
These are sectors that see more new businesses being formed and funded than any other – food brands are regular recipients of crowd funding.
The Round Table will start by focusing on a current trend that is influencing the drinks and hospitality sectors – that of “Mindful Drinking”. This will be led by Laura Willoughby MBE is co-founder of Club Soda, the Mindful Drinking Movement. Our discussion will then widen to consider the wider influences that will drive change going forward.
Our Panel will then give their views on at where the best opportunities lie for aspirational businesses, and the approach needed to make the most of them.

But her biggest kick is still seeing a client’s reaction to great results.

Laura Willoughby MBE is co-founder of Club Soda, the Mindful Drinking Movement.
The aim is to create a world where nobody feels out of place for not drinking. Club Soda has individuals, drinks brands, and social spaces in its membership. The inspiration for Club Soda comes Laura’s experience of giving up drinking seven years ago. A campaigner at heart with a background in movement building and politics, she realised that one of the big sticking points was a way to support people to take a self-guided journey to change their drinking. Club Soda has over 30,000 individual members, have built a venue listing guide for mindful drinkers (clubsodaguide.com) and they run the UK’s only Mindful Drinking Festival - the next one is this July.
Anita, Darren and Laura will be joined on the Panel by senior executives from some of the most innovative businesses in the UK Food, Drink and Hospitality sectors.
